Construction of the airport began in 1932 and was completed in 1933 with several upgrades since then. The airport was renamed the Des Moines International Airport in 1986 to acknowledge the presence of a United States Customs Service office at the airport. Verso says: The new modern terminal building constructed at a cost of one million dollars is one of the finest in the United States. Located at 5800 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Number 70778.
