Hal Wells was the driver of the Spaulding racer, a lightweight two-passenger wooden body on a stock chassis, during the October 1913 River to River Road race. Postcard view shows Wells driving west on 4th Avenue, in Grinnell, Iowa, during the race in which a world's dirt-road speed record was set.
