HADC - Waterloo Center for the Arts

As a partner of the HADC Project, the Waterloo Center for the Arts, located on the banks of the scenic Cedar River in downtown Waterloo, has the worlds’ largest public collection of Haitian Art in the world. The following selection displays a sample of paintings, metalworks, and drapos (flags) from their Haitian art collection.

(Cousin Zake flag) a multicolored rectangle with a dome top. There is an eye shape in the center of the dome on the right side is an ax, sickle, and a pipe. On the left is a pick ax, a black and white cone and a black, white and red, cup. Other number: 138 Kouzen Zaka (circa 1990) Joseph Oldof Pierre was moved to study to become a vodou priest after his father, a houngan, healed him from a serious illness. This flag depicts the peasant’s bag which serves as the symbol for Kouzen Zaka, loa of agriculture.
