Farm record book published by C.A. Bacon, Hillsdale Michigan. This volume, published for 1946, has "1947" hand-written on the cover and contains records for the Raymond S. Pilgrim farm which was located in the northeast quarter of Section 27 of Grant Township in Poweshiek County, Iowa. The tables in the book are keyed to the federal income tax schedules. Schedules included are: Livestock bought and sold; sale of produce; labor expense; feed, seed, and supplies purchased; machines hired; repairs and maintenance; fertilizer; fuel and oil; interest paid; electricity and telephone; freight and trucking; veterinary and medicine; taxes paid; insurance; storage hired; rent of other lands and buildings; other miscellaneous expenses; depreciation of buildings, machinery, livestock, fences and drains; other income and other deductible expenses.

Alex Moffett was born in 1905 in Suzhou, China, to missionary parents. He lived in China until 1923 when he attended Washington & Lee in Virginia for college and then went on to Vanderbilt for medical school. He and his wife, Virginia, returned to China in 1935 where they did medical missionary work until 1940, including during the Sino-Japanese war. After returning to the U.S., he had a private practice in Taylorsville, North Carolina, for twenty-nine years. Interview conducted as part of American Beliefs and Cultural Values, an American Studies class taught by Hanna Griff at Grinnell College in 1993.

After her marriage to Leonard Pederson, she was his partner in farming, active in Grange and church work, and a busy homemaker and mother. She was an accomplished cook, baker, and quilter. She and her husband had three children.

Boy Scout troops from Grinnell, Guernsey, Brooklyn, and Montezuma at the Boy Scout camporee west of Montezuma in 1943. Ben Purdum conducted the church service when the minister who was to have held the service failed to arrive in time. Boy Scout Troop 330 put on a play, The Good Samaritan, with Scoutmaster Purdum as narrator.

Elizabeth Pfund was born in Jewell, Iowa. She came to Poweshiek County in 1927 as a rural school teacher. She married Ervin Schultz on Nov. 27, 1929. They raised their two children on the family farm in Malcom Township where she lived for over 65 years. She was active in 4-H, the Farm Bureau, and she served as a Sunday school teacher and in other positions at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interview conducted as part of American Beliefs and Cultural Values, an American Studies class taught by Hanna Griff at Grinnell College in 1993.
