Looking east at the Iowa State Capitol building which was completed in 1886 at a cost of $3,296,256, and, and at the time, was the only five-domed capitol in the country. In 1917, the installation was handed over to national authorities and greatly expanded to become a regional training center for forces to participate in the First World War.
