Blue Banner Kentucky Rock
-
Description
-
Two men pose with a horse-drawn wagon full of rock on a Grinnell, Iowa, street. A large sign on the wagon says: "This is a load of celebrated Blue Banner Kentucky rock sold by Willson and Hastings. Will give to the one guessing nearest actual weight." The wagon and the horses are decorated with American flags so this is possibly an entry in a July 4th parade. Businesses in the background include C.N. Dawley and The Grinnell House. Blue Banner was a type of coal in use circa 1915. Drake Community Library (Grinnell, Iowa) Archives. Miscellaneous photographs. Collection #17-5, Views of Grinnell.
