Alex Moffett was born in 1905 in Suzhou, China, to missionary parents. He lived in China until 1923 when he attended Washington & Lee in Virginia for college and then went on to Vanderbilt for medical school. He and his wife, Virginia, returned to China in 1935 where they did medical missionary work until 1940, including during the Sino-Japanese war. After returning to the U.S., he had a private practice in Taylorsville, North Carolina, for twenty-nine years. Interview conducted as part of American Beliefs and Cultural Values, an American Studies class taught by Hanna Griff at Grinnell College in 1993.

After her marriage to Leonard Pederson, she was his partner in farming, active in Grange and church work, and a busy homemaker and mother. She was an accomplished cook, baker, and quilter. Bob Anderson and his wife, Lorraine, moved to Grinnell in 1953, where he owned and operated Grinnell Office Supply. From 1980 to 1993 he owned and operated Boklada, a downtown bookstore. Anderson was mayor of Grinnell from 1985 until his death in 1999. Born in Cedar Rapids on November 3, 1912, Dorothy Williams came to Grinnell in 1934 as a graduate of Coe College. She taught home economics until her marriage in 1936 to G. Sharp Lannom III. She was interested in politics, and went to the Far East with the Iowa Development Commission and Iowa Governor Harold Hughes. Three of her four sons carried on the family manufacturing business.

Born December 29, 1903 in Prentice, Wisconsin, Grant was educated in Wisconsin and Michigan. He came to Grinnell in 1928, and in 1929, was joined by his bride, Harriet. He was a professor of physics at Grinnell College. An observatory on the campus is named in his honor.

Jim George was born and raised in Iowa receiving a degree in journalism from Coe College. He spent four years in the United States Air Force in World War II. Returning to Iowa after the war he was the editor of newspapers in Eldora, Grinnell, and Montezuma, and then worked for four years as sports information director at Grinnell College. He then took a position at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company where he spent 25 years as public relations director. After retiring from GMRC he continued to work for them part time for another eight years. In 1985 he returned to Grinnell College and served as sports information director until 1999. He and his wife, Isabel, had three daughters. Interview conducted as part of American Beliefs and Cultural Values, an American Studies class taught by Hanna Griff at Grinnell College in 1993.
