Looking north at the original Camp Dodge library accredited by the American Library Association. From July to November of 1917, construction at Camp Dodge took place at a frenetic pace which included thirty barracks, two headquarters buildings, a 3,000-seat auditorium, a base hospital, three fire stations, post offices, libraries, and railroad depots were also constructed. In addition, there were 8 YMCA halls, a YWCA auditorium, a YWCA Hostess House, and centers for such organizations as the Knights of Columbus, the Lutheran Brotherhood, and the Jewish Welfare Service. Looking at several military trainees washing their kits after noon mess. Original construction of Camp Dodge began in 1907, to provide a place for the National Guard units to train. In 1917, the installation was handed over to national authorities and greatly expanded to become a regional training center for forces to participate in the First World War. The name Camp Dodge comes from Brigadier General Grenville M. Dodge, who organized Iowa's first National Guard unit in 1856. 1918 postmark. Number 52974.
