Looking east on 2nd Avenue SE with the Cedar Rapids Post Office and Federal Building on the right and the Cedar Rapids Business College shown in the background. The post office and federal building was constructed in 1895 at a cost of $100,000 and renovated and enlarged in 1906 at a cost of $215,000 by James Knox Taylor, supervising architect of the United States Treasury. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Cedar Rapids Business College was constructed in 1911 and located on the corner of Second Avenue and Fifth Street. 1915 postmark. Number 74.

When the building first opened, the school board was unable to afford new furniture, because of the enormous cost of its construction. During the first spring of the building's existence, a number of students used whatever vehicles they could provide to haul the furniture from the old building to the new one.
