The buildings were constructed entirely of wood, and the north side of Main Street burned down completely at the turn of the century. The buildings were soon replaced with red brick. 1915 postmark. Looking northeast at a Georgian Revival, Beaux Arts building, designed by James Knox Taylor, Supervising Architect of the United States Department of the Treasury, built in 1901. It housed the post office on the main floor and a federal courtroom on the second floor. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The post office has subsequently been relocated to a more modern building, and this building has been converted into commercial space located at 281 North Maple Street, Creston, Union County, Iowa.
