description | Image from the Frozen Ink series. Conditions : -15° Snowing. Ink drawings using snow, water, ink, and freezing temperatures on paper. As I continued to draw outside into late fall, the ink I used started freezing on the paper. Below 32°F the atmosphere takes over, freezing the washes of ink and preserving the crystal structures. I noticed the repeating patterns on other objects: dried on the shoulders of my coat after a walk in a light snow, frozen around the edges of a puddle, scattered across my windshield. When drawing on paper, the moments of freezing made the image itself a witness to and artifact from the place it was made, removing me from the wash altogether. |
