Description

Several men are standing in front of a train wreck. On April 23, 1908, southwest of DeWitt, Iowa, at Silver Creek, flooding weakened a bridge and gave way to stock train 132 where an engine and 17 cars of cattle fell into the water. Three crewmen perished in the wreck.

Looking north at the Cross Roads Motel located at 326 Eleventh Street, De Witt, Clinton County, Iowa. Verso says "Phone 107, 35 units, U.S. Highways 30 and 61, Best Western, AAA, Duncan Hines". The motel was named for the crossroads of Highways 30 and 61 and is part of the historic Lincoln Highway. Number 2C-H427.

The hospital was built as a home in 1875. The original builder used the building as a saloon before it became a hotel known as the "Stephenson House". Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 1907 postmark. Dr. C. D. Busby purchased the hotel and made it not only his residence but also turned it into a hospital. He later closed the hospital, but continued to live there. It was later used again as a hotel and restaurant. Located at 154 West Front Street, Brooklyn, Poweshiek County, Iowa
